Jacques came with his family to Australia on 28 January 2008.

My name is Jacques van der Merwe. I came from South Africa in 2008.  We came here, me and my family decided to start a new life in Australia – for obvious reasons. I guess it is good to be here.

I feel fairly calm these days.  Nothing really bothers me uummmm.  I  …  I  really enjoy it here… very peaceful country.  One experiences anxiety especially when you arrive here.  It is probably not very good for your health.

He he he he (maniacal laughter)

I’m actually not quite sure if I miss South Africa.  I sometimes think so, and other times I just don’t miss it at all. I maybe just shove it out of my head somehow, you know what I am saying?  It’s better not to think about it too much.

If I ever become the Prime Minister of Australia, I think I would ban sensoring of the arts ….. just for the record.

Laugh, laugh, laugh
